(Editor’s Note: 60-year-old California State Senator Christopher Cabaldon, D-3, first elected in 2024, of West Sacramento, represents Solano, Yolo, Napa, Sonoma, Contra Costa, and Sacramento counties. He is the first Filipino-American Senator seated in the California legislature. Previously, he was Mayor of West Sacramento from 1998 to 2020. Cabaldon worked as an adjunct professor at CSU Sacramento and was a Vice Chancellor with the California Community Colleges. He came out as gay in 2006 and is also a gun control advocate.)

(Editor’s Note: Florida’s 73-year-old Republican Senator Rick Scott was first elected in 2018. Previously, he was the 45th Governor of Florida elected in 2010. Prior to election to office, he started out as a donut shop owner and then became an owner of two hospitals and within 10 years had built the single largest for-profit health care network in America–a $20 billion giant with about 350 hospitals, 550 home health care offices and scores of other medical businesses in 38 states. By 2020, he was the wealthiest member of Congress. Florida’s 51-year-old Republican Senator Ashley Moody was first appointed in 2024 by Governor Ron DeSantis to replace Senator Marco Rubio who resigned to become President Donald J. Trump’s Secretary of State. Previously she served as Florida’s 38th Attorney General from 2019 to 2025. Moody is an attorney and former circuit court judge in Hillsborough County. In 1998, she switched parties from Democrat to Republican.)
