(Editor’s Note: Siskiyou County has a population of 42,013 is 6,287 square miles and lies in the Shasta Cascade region with its highest point being the 14,171 foot Mount Shasta, a tourist destination. The county seat is Yreka, population 7,807 which is located 22 miles south of the Oregon border. The county in District 1 is represented by State Senator Megan Dahle (R) and Assemblywoman Heather Hadwick (R).)

(Editor’s Note: 61-year-old California State Senator Shannon Grove of Bakersfield, first elected in 2018, represents the southeast Central Valley and the northwest Mojave Desert which includes Fresno, Kern, and Tulare Counties and is the largest Senate district in California by land size. Grove was Minority Leader of the California State Senate from 2019 to 2021 and first represented the 16th then the 12th Senate Districts. She also served in the California State Assembly from 2010 to 2016. She is a pro-Trump legislator and a pro-gun advocate who attends the Assemblies of God. Grove is termed out of her State Senate seat in 2026 and is running for District 1 of the California Board of Equalization which oversees property tax assessments. She served in the U.S. Army in Frankfurt, Germany for three years.)

She is a former law professor at several universities, the first female U.S Senator from Massachusetts, a progressive, a prolific writer and author of books, and former candidate for U.S. President in 2020. Massachusetts’ 79-year-old Democratic Senator Ed Markey, a ranking member of the Senate Small Business Committee, was first elected in 2013. Previously, he served in the U.S. House of Representatives from Massachusetts from 1976 to 2013. While in Congress from 2007 to 2013 he served as Chair of the House Global Warming Committee. Markey also served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1973 to 1976. He is a progressive. Markey was in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1968 to 1973.)
