(Editor’s Note: 50-year-old California State Senator Catherine Blakespear, D-38, of Encinitas was first elected in 2022 to represent a Senate District in the North County of San Diego and the southern edge of Orange County. Previously she served in the Encinitas City Council and then as Mayor from 2016 to 2022 when she was also chair of the San Diego Association of Governments. Balkespear is an attorney but previously was a journalist for the Los Angeles Times and for the Associated Press.)

His term ends this year and he is not seeking re-election. Previously, he was a businessman. North Carolina’s 54-year-old Republican Senator Ted Budd has served since 2023. Previously, he was in the U.S. House District 13 from 2017 to 2023 and a member of the Freedom Caucus. His family lives in a farm and he is a gun store owner.)
