Previously he served in the Pico Rivera City Council. He is a former paratrooper for the 82nd Airborne Division.)

He is a former U.S. Marine from 2000-2005 and is married to the niece of former Republican Vice President Dan Quayle. He considers himself a moderate. Indiana 46-year-old Senator Jim Banks was elected in 2024. He previously served as an Indiana Congressman (R-3) from 2016-2024 and as an Indiana State Senator (R-17) from 2010 to 2016 and also in the Whitley County Council from 2008-2010. Banks is a Supply Corp Officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve and took a leave of absence to serve in Afghanistan for seven months from Sept, 2014 to April, 2015. In 2014, he was selected by the Conservative Political Action Conference as one of the Top 10 Conservatives Under 40.)
