(Editor’s Note: California Senate District 39 is represented by 47-year-old Democrat Akilah Weber Pierson of central San Diego, first elected in 2024 and previously served the 79th California State Assembly District winning a special election replacing her mother, California Secretary of State Shirley Weber, in a special election in 2021.)

The 65-year-old legislator is the first gay Asian person elected to Congress. His grandparents are from Japan and his family spent World War II in a war relocation camp. He is co-chair of the LGBTQ Equality Caucus and a member of six other legislative caucuses. Previously he taught public education for 23 years in Riverside County and was elected to the Riverside County Board of Trustees in 1990.)

(Editor’s Note: Virginia Republican Congressman John McGuire, is 57-years-old, first elected in 2025, and previously served in the 10th Virginia Senate District from 2024-2025 and the 56th District of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2018 to 2024. The Virginia legislator is pro-business, pro-Veterans, and pro-law enforcement. He formerly was a U.S. Navy Seal and a businessman whose services were contracted by Virginia Commonwealth Universities. He is Baptist. Virginia Republican Congressman Ben Cline, 54-years-old, was elected to Congress in 2019. He previously served in the 24th District of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2002 to 2018. He was a former marketing and sales executive before attending law school at the University of Richmond. After gaining his law degree, Cline was an Associate Commonwealth Attorney for Rockingham County and the city of Harrisonburg until 2013 and maintained a private law practice. He is staunchly anti-abortion. The Virginia Congressional delegation is made up of 11 members: 6 Democrats and 5 Republicans.)
