She was elected to the La Mesa City Council in 2018 and is a pediatric doctor.)

(Editor’s Note: South Carolina’s 70-year-old Republican Senator Lindsey Graham was first elected in 2003 and served as the Chair of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary from 2019 to 2021. He previously served as a Congressman R-3 from 1995 to 2003 and in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1993 to 1995. He is a lawyer and served in the U.S. Air Force active duty from 1982 to 1989, in the Air Force Guard from 1989 to 1995 and in the Air Force Reserves from 1995 to 2015. He is running for re-election this year. South Carolina’s 60-year-old Republican Senator Tim Scott is the first African-American Senator in the Southern United States to be directly elected. He is the first African American to have served in both the Senate and the House, serving in the 1st Congressional District from 2011 to 2013 and the first African-American Senator to chair a full committee. Scott served in the Charleston County Council from 1995 to 2009 and was a member of the South Carolina General Assembly from 2009 to 2011.)
