(Editor’s Note: New York’s 36-year-old Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-14, of the east Bronx and north-central Queens in New York City is Puerto Rican and Mexican. She is the youngest woman ever elected to Congress at age 29 and has served since 2018 and is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America. She is a progressive serving on the Squad, the congressional socialist bloc in Congress. Ocasio-Cortez is pro-choice, and would like to abolish ICE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement. New York’s 38-year-old Congressman Ritchie Torres, D-15, has represented a district within the Bronx since 2020 and is the first openly gay Black congressman ever elected. He is co-chair of the Equality Caucus, which is the LGBTQ+ Caucus in Congress. Previously, he represented the New York City Council District 15 from 2014 to 2020. Torres is Catholic. The New York Congressional Delegation consists of 19 Democrats and 7 Republicans.)
